Neonode

A driving experience through touch-sensitive steering wheels

How would a car feel if all traditional ways of driving were reengineered into just a simple touch-sensitive steering wheel? Along with Neonode, we created an interactive in-car experience that simulated how autonomously driven cars of the future could drive.

Value

The simple interaction is reassuring, dependable and reduces the risk of misinterpretations, creating a sense of trust between the driver and the car. Better and more confident decision making results in safer handling of the vehicle.

Contribution

From design to development, connecting hardware and software and validating insights with users, our team has done it all. Through a human-centred design process, we have identified scenarios in which a driver can build trust between him/her and the machine.

The experience is built around the driver.

The zForce® Drive™ is designed with a driver centred perspective. The presentation of contextual and prioritised information helps in creating a better and safer driver experience.

As the driver engages with the steering wheel, embedded LED lights act as virtual buttons.
This allows the driver to keep his hands on the steering and his eyes on the road, reducing driver
distractions and other potential risks.

Contextual HMI; a way to build more trust between driver and machine.

Gentle animated graphics in the cluster indicate all available interactions and since the possible interactions with the steering are largely contextual, it means that the driver only sees the actions he can perform depending on what driving mode he is in. This reduces clutter and improves function.
